Introduction

As Optical Engineer, you are responsible for the Product Life Cycle (PLC) in your company. You ensure that your product development projects meet cost, quality and throughput requirements.

Minimize fabrication risks
By applying PanDao you can minimize fabrication risk. To do that, it tells you the needed technologies and the optimum fabrication chain.
Besides, PanDao enables you to avoid too loose lens tolerancing levels. You can determine a stricter tolerancing for your lens without causing any more cost.
The following example shows the best fabrication chain for an aspherical lens. It has a diameter of 50 mm, made out of BK7 glass. It has shape accuracy 3/5(3), centering accuracy 4/5’, 3 nm RMS surface roughness and a Scratch/Dig level of 5/3*0.024.
For this asphere PanDao determines the following set of stricter tolerances. They can be applied without causing any increase of fabrication cost or risk.
With PanDao you can determine the process window of a fabrication chain where cost and risk stay constant. Without PanDao you don’t.
Reduce risk of project failing
Imagine, a critical design review is behind you. Your project is now in the implementation phase. You need to meet the deadline for delivering a set of prototypes to the customer now.
In this situation, you depend on stable prototyping manufacturing. The quality, throughput and cost goals have to meet on time.
PanDao supports you by determining the best fabrication chain at least cost or greatest speed for the prototyping batch.
The pictures below show the output of PanDao. The first picture is the most cost-efficient fabrication chain, the other the fastest.
The fastest fabrication chain for this lens is 2 times faster than the most cost-efficient. The disadvantage is that it causes 4.16 times more cost. The decision about the cost and speed is in your hand. Do you need a fast prototype or a cost optimized serial production?
